@Rev. Joan R. Harrell (Chicago, IL) is the founder of RacismContradictsChristianity.com, an ordained American Baptist minister, and womanist public theologian. She is the Director of Public Communications at Trinity United Church of Christ, where she is responsible for creating, writing, and developing multimedia communications and was responsible for public relations and crisis communications for Trinity United Church of Christ during the 2008 Democratic Primary and Presidential Election and the 2012 U.S. Presidential Campaign season and a co-organizer for the 2012 Chicago Occupy the Dream movement. Her ministry includes media relations and external affairs for Trinity United Church of Christ. She is an award-winning broadcast journalist and producer including  Empowering Voices, a syndicated weekly podcast series, working at the CBS News Bureau and CSPAN in Washington DC, David Jayne Fellow at the ABC News Bureau in London, England, and associate producer and correspondent for the documentary, “What Can We Do about Violence? A Bill Moyers Special.” Joan has a Master of Science degree from the Columbia University School of Journalism in New York City, a Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Seminary in Atlanta and is currently working to complete a Doctor of Ministry program at Chicago Theological Seminary.
